The Stripling Media Center loves to reward its readers! Below is a list of the incentives we use for Accelerated Reader. Please note that all points must be accompanied by a total percentage correct of 75% or higher.
AR Reward system for K-5
5 points: bookmark and sticker
10 points: sticker
15 points: Visor and sticker
20 points: sticker
25 points: Name on AR wall and bookmark
30 points: sticker
35 points: Sticker and pencil
40 points: sticker
45 points: bookmark and sticker
50 points: picture on wall, sticker, bookmark
55 points: sticker and bookmark
60 points: sticker
65 points: Harry Potter card and sticker
70 points: Jackpot (can draw from a mystery box of goodies)
75 points: Reading award ribbon and sticker…move picture on AR wall to 75 point column
80 points: sticker
85 points: Dr. Seuss bookmark and sticker
90 points: sticker
95 points: money bookmark and gold “outstanding reader” sticker
100 points: Move picture to 100 point column on AR wall, 100 pt sticker, 100 pt pin, appear on the morning news
125 points: eraser top and sticker
150 points: AR Wall of Fame (students sign a gold star outside of my office – we film them and put it on the news), pin, sticker, and ribbon
175 points: Sticker and bookmark
200 points: Wristband and sticker
225 points: sticker
250 points: bookmark and sticker
275 points: book bag (plastic) and sticker
300 points: personalized ballpoint pen and sticker
4th/5th grades: We do all of the above (with the exception of the visors) and dog tags as well. Dog tags are given every ten points up to 100 points.
Special note: When students start getting a LOT of points (over 200), we try to do something extra special for them, depending on our resources. They may get free books, a coupon to be the media specialist for an hour, etc.
All awards are dependent on at least a 75% average on quizzes.
Also, every nine weeks, we give awards at awards day. We give the top three in each classroom a certificate .
At the end of the year, we award medals to the top three readers for the year in each grade level. Teachers with the most points also receive medals. The top three readers for the entire school receive trophies.
